Dead World Leaders are a Sheffield indie rock band formed in the mid 2000s, emerging during a defining moment for the city’s guitar driven scene. Rooted in British indie, the four piece built a reputation for melodic songwriting, sharp dynamics and energetic live performances across the UK circuit.
Featuring Andy Martin on vocals, Kyle Hammond on guitar, Rob Nicholson on bass and Dan Ryan on drums, the band fused jangling yet powerful guitars, propulsive basslines and anthemic choruses with a distinctly northern urgency. Their sound drew from post Britpop and post punk, balancing immediacy with thoughtful lyricism.
Dead World Leaders became regulars on the national live circuit, sharing stages with Reverend and the Makers, Glasvegas, The Enemy, Silversun Pickups, Arctic Monkeys, The La’s and Snow Patrol. They performed at high profile events including In The City and the inaugural Tramlines Festival, cementing their place within Sheffield’s modern indie landscape.
Their debut single, “The Start of The End Begins” in 2006, showcased their flair for memorable refrains and tightly crafted guitar hooks. Follow up releases including “Vitamins” in 2007 and “Right Side of Wrong” in 2008 strengthened their momentum, supported by BBC radio airplay and coverage in regional music press.
Positioned within the wave of mid 2000s British indie, Dead World Leaders remain part of Sheffield’s rich guitar band heritage.
