CVC are back with ‘Silver Blues’, the first single from their forthcoming album of the same name. The release comes two weeks before the band are due to play a headline show at The Deaf Institute in Manchester as part of Chris Hawkins’ Awesome Friends series.
Formed in 2020, CVC – short for Church Village Collective – comprise Dave Bassey, Francesco Orsi, Elliot Bradfield, Ben Thorne and Tom Fry. Their debut album, Get Real, arrived in 2023, hand-in-hand with acclaim as one of NME’s 100 Ones To Watch (and signing off with a Welsh Music Prize nomination). 10 million streams later and with playlist support across BBC Radio 2 and 6Music, the metamorphic outfit from the beautifully tough valleys now land a right hook on the nose of pretence with the album they’d always wanted to make.
Dave Bassey always imagined “Silver Blues” as an album opener. “It’s got the harmonies, got the solos and got the synthesizers. I was thinking of an opener like on Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, that thing of addressing the listener directly,” he says. “I just wanted it to fucking smash open the doors, basically.”
Recorded with producer Ash Workman, who has collaborated with the likes of Christine and the Queens, Metronomy and Ghostpoet, “Silver Blues” is about setting aside your worries and making the most of the time that’s yours. “It came from a time when I was working 12-hour shifts and being knackered all the time,” Dave explains. “I’d have two days off a week where I would just be really up for recording. I’d start every morning by cleaning the whole house, which is where the lines about the ‘silver broom’ and stuff come from, and then sit at the piano and do the recording stuff all day.”
“Silver Blues” is released Wednesday 7th October 2026 via Verdigris Records.
