How you can help save The Leadmill: Submit an objection to landlord’s premises licence application

HELP TO SAVE THE LEADMILL

As many of you are aware, our landlords have issued The Leadmill with an eviction notice in order to operate from this location themselves. If they are successful, this would result in The Leadmill ceasing to exist after 43 years.

Our landlords have recently moved forward with their plans to evict The Leadmill by applying for their own premises licence.

A premises licence enables a business to be able to provide entertainment and sell alcohol and is regulated locally by Sheffield City Council. Without a premises licence, a venue cannot operate.

If you wish to help us, please consider the following:

The general public are able to object to a premises licence application if they are aware of any relevant reasons as to why it should not be granted.

An objection must be based on one, or more, of the 4 licensing objectives:

  • the prevention of crime and disorder.
  • public safety.
  • the prevention of public nuisance.
  • the protection of children from harm.

You can make comments based on your understanding of the landlord’s experience and competence.

You may be assisted in your understanding by Googling relevant reviews and press reports about the operation of the landlord’s current nightclubs. These are; Electric Brixton, SWX Bristol, and NX Newcastle.

Objections must be received by the Licensing Authorities before Wednesday 24th May 2023, either by email at licensingservice@sheffield.gov.uk or by post to Licensing Team, Block C, Staniforth Road Depot, Sheffield, S9 3HD.

An eligible objection needs to include your name and address, as well as the address that the premises licence application is for, which is: 6/7 Leadmill Road, Sheffield, S1 4SE.

Once an objection has been submitted, it may be shared with the applicant. You can ask for your personal details to remain anonymous if you don’t wish for them to be shared – your objection will still be valid.

If you feel particularly concerned about a certain area you could also raise your concerns to the local responsible authorities directly.
