Straight out of the quiet Derbyshire town of Matlock comes DIY disco/pop outfit Patawawa.
The trio of Sam Wilmot, Rory Lovatt and Beth Garrett have fast made a name for themselves
with their blend of blood-pumping beats, glittered guitar riffs, sparkling synths and bass lines
that bite, have seen them tipped by some of the most influential music media around.
Hailed by the NME as sounding like “if Calvin Harris time-travelled back in time to Studio 54”
with “hints of early Foals and Two Door Cinema Club”, by the Guardian as cooly radiating
the sound of “peak-period Nile Rodgers/Bernard Edwards or early Madonna” and The Line
of Best Fit as being “reminiscent of Greco Roman vagrant Roosevelt and keyboard pioneer
George Duke” the band have already scored a huge international hit with their collaboration
with French producer Ted Cazey clocking up more than 4 million plays on Spotify alone and
topping the Hype Machine charts with their single ‘Patagonia’.
A succession of singles for labels such as Soundplate and new French imprint Splinter saw
the band cement their position as one of the most exciting new acts around earning support
from the likes of BBC 6 Music and leading to the release of their debut EP, ‘Bedroom’. 2020
sees their biggest year to date, with early support from Spotify editorial playlists ‘The Indie
List’ and ‘New Music Friday’, ahead of an album release in September.
