After today’s announcement by the Prime Minister regarding employee benefit grants, all of our events will be cancelled for the foreseeable future until it is once again safe for us to open.

This is very tough for us as historically we have always found a way to stay open during tough times, even in the worst conditions, including freak snowstorms and the awful floods of 2007, however we know this is the correct decision by the government for the safety and survival of our beloved Sheffield.

We haven’t actually been open to the public for events since Sunday 15th March so have not contributed to a potential spread of the virus since the Prime Minister advised against large social gatherings on Monday 16th. We have instead been working on sprucing up the venue and our backstage areas (as well as becoming toilet roll salespeople!) so the place will look better than ever when we come back kicking later in the year.

We are proud of our team’s democratic decision to remain open at the start of the week due to the impossible position we were put in. The Leadmill is nothing without it’s incredible staff and there was no way we were going to hang them out to dry. However, circumstances have now changed and so has our stance.

Due to these newly announced benefits we are luckily in a position to retain all of our staff on full pay and secure The Leadmill’s future. We will also be looking into ways of supporting our talented freelance staff, from engineers to DJs to stage crew. They are just as important to our successful operation and have very limited help available to them due to their self-employed status.

We have honestly been overwhelmed with the kind words of support from you all this past week (more than a few tears have been shed), thank you for keeping our morale up during one of the worst weeks ever. It is still going to be an incredibly tough year with some major losses in revenue to make up for so please do support us where you can. We have some brand new 40th anniversary merch up on our website alongside the old classics, as well as a £5 donation option. We also have our memorabilia auction here: http://bit.ly/3a0aFU3

Our box office will still be open as normal unless stricter restrictions are imposed by the Government, so please do drop in for a chat, we can sell merch / tickets / cost price toilet roll in person and it will be good to see some friendly faces.

There are going to be far too many small independent venues / bars / cafes / restaurants / shops struggling in this terrible period so please do keep them in mind when you venture back out. They are the heart and soul of our wonderful city and must be preserved at all costs.

We love you all and we promise the second half of this year will be an absolute belter, we will be coming back harder and stronger than ever.

Stay safe and look after each other x
