In 1982 the NME described the Leadmill as “combining the thrift and intimacy of a working men’s club with the leisure processor a Hacienda” with the potential “to become an important landmark in pop culture.

The 80s featured gigs by Pulp, The Fall, Everything But The Girl, Marc Almond, New Order, The Pogues, Big Audio Dynamite, Culture Club, Housemartins, Simply Red, Happy Mondays, Primal Scream, Jools Holland, Jane’s Addiction, Faith No More, Stone Roses, Inspiral Carpets and The La’s at the Leadmill.
